Message from the Minister of
Infrastructure Development and Communications, Sarawak
(YB Datuk Wong Soon Koh)
Congratulations to SMB Methodist on this auspicious
occasion of her 50th anniversary celebration and the official opening of
the new building. The
Methodist Missions of Sarawak inaugurated this school in Sibu 50 years
ago. Today, the vision of
that pioneer group has borne fruits of abundance and gained public
recognition of her achievements.
The growth of SMB Methodist must be
attributed to the combined efforts of the Government and the community
at large. During the span
of time, the Management Board of the school, the principals, teachers,
students and parents have never failed to render their untiring efforts
to the success of the school. Therefore,
the outstanding performance of SMB Methodist in her Public Examinations,
the various fine achievements in her many extra-curricular projects and
participation, the expansion and improvement to the hardware facilities
of the school; all these bear testimony to this spirit of working
together for education.
SMB Methodist has also produced many successful citizens, some of whom
are distinguished leaders of the society.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school formation, we
should continue to carry on the torch that is being passed down to us.
In this respect, the younger generations must appreciate the
arduous tasks of our forefathers and take it as a sacred duty to
contribute our best to the school and the society.
While we need to change and adapt
to a new environment in this IT age, we should not lose sight to the
fundamental value of education, which is to make us a better and fuller
person. It means that we
are not only more knowledgeable in our understanding of the world around
us, we must also be socially responsible, morally and spiritually strong
and courageous to withstand the negative influence of modernity.
My congratulations to the School
Board of Management under the chairmanship of Mr. Lau Hui Siong, the
principal, teachers, staff, students and parents for making this double
happiness celebration a happy and memorable event.
Wishing
you all every success. May
God Bless Us All.
Datuk
Wong Soon Koh

of Infrastructure Development & Communications Sarawak
