KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to make a one-day Gawai Dayak visit to the Iban heartland of Betong, Pakan and Julau on June 3.
In Betong, Najib, who will be accompanied by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Puan Seri Ragad Kurdi Taib will celebrate the festival at Dewan Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan,
Najib and his entourage will then visit the 34-door Rumah George Chungut, Nanga Nansang, Pakan near Sarikei before proceeding to Julau, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu.
Jabu announced this after chairing a meeting to prepare for the prime minister’s visit. Najib will visit Rumah Jana Saweng at Matop, in Julau.
Jabu said it was an opportunity for the premier to experience the Gawai Dayak atmosphere in the interior. The prime minister would depart for Kuala Lumpur later in the evening after the three visits, he said.
