The population of Sarawak was distributed mainly along the coastal belt stretching all the way from Sematan to Miri, with a concentration of people in densely populated but relatively undeveloped coastal towns. These coastal areas are mostly lowlying, swampy lands with very soft soils and numerous rivers. however Sarawak government is determined to provide with every opportunities for development. Under the Sarawak Coastal Road programme, there are plans to provide a comprehensive road link between Mukah and the towns in the region. Coastal towns like Mukah, Oya and Dalat will soon be transformed into dynamic growth centres with facilities on par with other major towns of Sarawak. The Btg Mukah Bridge will generate a lot of new traffic, new economic activities and new opportunities for development in this region. it will also act as a catalyst to uplift the social-economic status of Mukah and central region of Sarawak. Provisions are also made in the design of the bridge to carry water mains telecommunication and SESCO service cable.
