Thousands of folk from seven villages along Baram river as well as Penan settlements along Silat river are feared to be threatened by a malaria outbreak with at least five confirmed cases in the last few days.

The seven villages in Ulu Baram comprise Long San, Long Selatong, Tanjong Tepalit, Long Apu, Long Julan, Long Anap and Long Palai.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan confirmed the outbreak when met at Miri Airport yesterday.

Some 70 Sabahans gave their support for a resolution to allow all East Malaysians living in West Malaysia to vote by post.

The resolution was raised at a forum in Kuala Lumpur organised by DAP's Kota Kinabalu MP Hiew King Cheu, to get feedback on the many problems faced by Sabahans living in the Klang Valley.

A 46-year-old working professional has complained to DAP Perak of a syndicate using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), who has conned her of RM22,700 in a single day.

The human resource officer in an international company said the syndicate uses VoIP to spoof fake caller telephone numbers to appear in the victims' hand-phones, to deceive them that the calls are coming from Bukit Aman or Bank Negara.

Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) will not be much of a challenge to the BN in the coming state election, said Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) vice-president Joseph Mauh Ikeh.

He said the PCM would not be much of a threat because the rural folks were now more knowledgeable, politically practical and discerning people.

"The PCM has just appeared in the state political scene in January this year. It still has a lot to do and faces a lot of challenges in getting the people to know it better.

"I do not think it can accomplish much. Its effort may be just be an exercise in futility," he told Bernama in Kanowit last night.

State PCM chairman Gabriel Adit Demong recently disclosed plans to put up candidates in 10 to 15 rural and Dayak majority constituencies.
