One Malaysia

The concept has brought new hope to the common people. High expectation from the new concept is on going with some sector of the community questioning whether the BN government  can really carry out what it has planned to do; especially on the issue of local university intake for non bumi and recognition of private Chinese schools.

Prime Minister will be under a lot of pressure carrying out such 1 Malaysia concept as there will be noises from both left and right camps. It is the hope of Malaysia citizens that such 1-Malaysia concept can be carried out fairly in spirit and in deed. When implementing 1-Malaysia concept, special rights issue may surface from time to time bringing tension to the country.It is the hope of the people that common sense, wisdom and sound reasoning will guide our leaders in drafting and implementing new 1-Malaysia concept to bring peace, progress and prosperity to the country and its people.

INTERNET FACILITY

Sarawak is still  under developed when compared to West Malaysia in term of internet and infra structure. Recent visit to TM Point revealed that Sarawak broadband network is not on par to that of West Malaysia.

Many trying to take advantage of Telekom Malaysia SUPER UPGRADE DEALS (which ended yesterday) were advised by counter officer that you could not get what they promised in the promotion. In Sibu Streamyx Combo users of 384kbps could only upgrade to 1Mbps for 1-4th month RM90 each and after that RM95 per month even though promotion allowed upgrade up to 4Mbps for RM150 per month. In Miri, Streamyx Combo users are not allowed to upgrade from 384 kbps to 512Kbps for reason the local facility is not good enough to do that. When Sibu Officer asked for the reason, he checked with the online system and said the port not available and when pressed to explain he said the internet system in Sibu is not stable to guarantee anything more than 1Mbps.The Officer also mentioned that Kuching can get up to 2Mbps upgrade.

The question is "When are we going to get better streamyx facility?" "Are we going to get P1 Wimax service here this year to bring better internet service?" Some said man-made red-tape trying to stop the coming of P1 Wimax to Sarawak. The recent TM SUPER UPGRADE DEALS may be just an attempt to stop TM customers migrating to P1 after the success of P1 "potong" advertisement on TV?

INFRA STRUCTURE

The road construction in Sarawak under federal scheme is always delayed due to delay in funding or payment as well as 'technical problem' . Such problem has become a never ending story bringing bad image as well as hardship to local contractors. May be MACC should monitor the distribution of fund as well as payment procedure to ensure fund for the construction is used wisely according to the planned project specification.Every stage of construction should be monitored and certified by qualified civil engineer to ensure government fund is used to pay for quality work.

 LOCAL COUNCIL FUNDING

Local people has the opinion that Sarawak government is no longer providing administrative and operational fund for local councils to run their business. And councils are now on their own to look for fund from local business community in term of service charge, parking fees, rental and whatnot. The recent policy of collecting service fee from entertainment sector in advance of 6 months tends to confirm the situation. May be it is a sound management policy to ask local councils to be self-sufficient but it might put great stress to local business community as they are forced to pay in advance. It makes the situation worse when local business community affected by the new policy is not consulted before hand. Will the council come up with more new policies in this  year to generate more income for the councils in order to provide better services to local people? However, one has to take note such policies if not accepted by local people it might become an issue in the state election which is likely to fall in this year.
